So my review on Serenity will be A LOT shorter than my review for Pride and Prejudice…no fear.

So…Firefly….I gotta say…I expected more. But then the bar was set high for me. My #1 show of all time is Doctor Who…and I’m sorry…..but the Captain is NOT The Doctor. Secondly, I just kept hearing how AMAZING it was. I think I expected too much going in.

That being said…it’s not a bad show. It’s just not the BEST. Sorry to all those avid Firefly fans… I know I will have a perminant ban on every sci-fi site out there… L

Back to Serenity. So…Serenity is the name the ship in Firefly. The show firefly was cancelled after fourteen episodes, but there has been a huge cult movement since then. They are seriously trying to get the show back. In 2008 they made the movie Serenity, and well…it sank. Although you CAN watch the movie WITHOUT watching the TV show, I wouldn’t suggest it. But then you might be disappointed…well you might be disappointed anyway…

OKAY SPOILERS…I know I say that before, but I wanted to make sure you knew now!

The Shepard dies. His death was pointless. I was not okay with it. There was no point in bringing back and then killing off that character. It was ruthless.

They are running from their enemies the Reavers, who they have been running from since episode one…so doesn’t really feel like a new plot line. Plus….it’s about hiding River…so really not a new plot line.

I am not going into as much detail about this movie as I do with others, but another thing that REALLY bothered me was Wash’s death. Again…NO POINT to that. They just wanted to be dramatic. And drama for the sake of drama…isn’t okay. It should have a reason. Wash’s wife, although depressed is not TOO much changed. She’s more careless about her own well-being, but that’s it. It’s depressing to watch someone lose a spouse, and honestly, I didn’t want to see that.

Plus Wash was one of the few cool characters.

Jayne is also cool.

So maybe it’s also because I sat there with Wu. Wu is a friend of mine, from China. He only came here in August for school. So we sat and watched Serenity together, so he could tell me what was being said in Chinese.  They randomly say things in Chinese, and then randomly there’s Chinese stuff written around them. Sometimes when they spoke he could tell us what they said, but other times he said that either they said it so wrong and he couldn’t understand them, and other times he said it was absolute gibberish. Most of the Chinese characters written on the walls was gibberish. He’s also pretty fluent in Japanese, not Korean, but he said they were Chinese characters….but ….yeah.

So that may have kind of ruined things immediately…when I knew Joss Wheldon…who is an amazing director…let that slip. He should have tried harder with that. It should have made sense…in some language.

So River…who is apparently a BADASS when she is triggered, and completely USELESS at other times, kills like a trillion people….so that’s cool, and I can definitely understand why guys are into that. But…ps…I’m not a guy, and after so much of a girl punching and fighting I really lose amusement. For a little bit it’s like awesome look at that! She’s kicking everyone’s ass, good for her. After awhile…it’s like…really?

But guys like chicks who can beat the shit out of a lot of men….I guess…I don’t know. I don’t get it. But whatev. Not about that. River is cool.

The problem I DO have with her, is at the very end. She is USELESS. I mean she sits there and stares and cries as everyone is shooting and getting shot, and she just cries in the corner. I’m like OMG River Fucking do something other than CRY. Dumbass. I know she’s been trauma…but COME ON.  But AFTER her brother has been shot she finally gives in, and blocks them all, and sacrifices herself. Well she doesn’t really sacrifice herself. She kills like a hundred cannibal like creatures by herself. Awesome. But why didn’t she just do that in the beginning? Don’t say because she wasn’t triggered that’s BS. She wasn’t triggered at the end either.

And the guy from Love Actually is a villain! Dude! I loved him! But that is not why I question this movie. It’ just odd.

In the end: the Captain is still kinda a douchebag ass who thinks everyone should obey every stupid idiotic word that flies out of his mouth, the whore and him are in love I guess, the doctor ends up with Kaylee, and River is perverted and likes to watch them have sex.

And poor Zoe just has to deal with her husband being dead.

Okay…sorry, I just would have ended it SO much better. Gah.
