So Captain America: The First Avenger was not...my film. It was interesting, but super corny, ...which as this took place in the 1940s I guess it was supposed to be.
It starts off with Steve Rogers wanting to be in the Army, to fight in WWII. He is a puny little white kid. I think they kinda over did it. You can kinda tell that it was digitally altered. I like their attempt, and it's done....sorta well, but you can still REALLY tell it's fake. I'm not sure if it's just that we don't have good enough tech yet, or if it's the graphic artists fault, but something looked wrong. Maybe they tried to use too small of a body. I mean his head is bigger than his body. That's probably it.
So he's this small kid, who is being turned down by the army over and over again. But he keeps trying. He shows little interest to women, and they show little interest in him. All he cares about is fighting. He's noticed then by Dr. Erskine, played by Stanley Tucci (so is he in every film nowadays? Love him). He loves how he is brave, and how much he cares about his nation. He has a heart. So he fudges the paper work and recruits him. In reality he has another mission planned for Steve Rogers. Unfortunately Colonel Chester Phillips played by Tommy Lee Jones is not so impressed with Steve Rogers. He is definitely prejudice against him, and treats him like crap the whole entire movie. Oh well. Dr. Erskine gets his way in the end. He gets picked. Before this he starts to fall for Peggy Carter....who....does something for the military. Women are treated like crap then, and you can see that. Although she's allowed to work for them, she I think, is expected to be a nurse. Although, I have to say, the nurses during WWII do not get enough respect. I can't IMAGINE having to do or deal with what they did. Seriously. So obviously they fall in love.
So Steve is taken in to be injected with Gamma radiation. ...which is what creates the Hulk later in history. But it has a different effect on Captain America. He turns into a six foot tall man who now is incredibly ripped. He becomes Captain America. He's strong as shit, and all that. Dr. Erskine dies however, and because the Colonel doesn't like Steve, and wanted a whole army of people like him, he forces him to do publicity stunts to sell war bonds. He's basically a stage act, which is why he has that costume.
But later he does get involved. He gets his kick ass shield from Howard Stark (Tony Stark-Ironman's dad). It's the strongest metal ever, and apparently there is no more metal to replicate it. but he takes it, and paints the pretty star on it. Bullets bounce off the shield and have virtually no impact on him. When he gets hurt, he seems to heal. He is able to do some fancy gymnast type things. He's now apparently a pro in all kinds of fighting. I don't know. It's weird.
So he goes to fight the red skull. Who was Dr. Erskine's first experiment, that went...wrong. No one is supposed to be able to live with that much gamma radiation. So he goes and tries to fight the red skull, who under his face mask...is just red. He's a creepy villain. ...but not as cool as Loki. Sorry.
He has a blue cube thing from Odin's vaults though. Interesting how they tied it to Thor. He's going to use it to destroy the allies or something. Captain America saves the day however. But the way he saves the day is sad. He kill the red skull...kinda. And he crashes the ship into the ocean. That way the cube remained at the bottom of the ocean.
The plan didn't really work out however. And as he's Captain America...he's not going to die that easily either. He is however frozen. Only to wake up in 2012.
He freaks out when he realizes that his room is a fake, and runs out into the streets of NY to be stunned by what he sees. He meets Nick Fury who tells him they set up the fake room to stop him from being shocked, and that he had slept for 70 years. They also have the cube, in which they are now doing stuff too....not good.
And that's where Avengers picks up! Yay!
So the movie was okay. It's not my favorite. If it weren't important to the avengers, I probably would be okay never seeing it again...but it is important to the avengers. Captain is better in the Avengers, but he's still one of my least favorite superheros.
